Althams Butchers is an independent family business established in 1856, now run by a 5 th generation
of the Altham family. The business manages both farms and a butchery, with its own-reared meat
serving the catering and hospitality industry across the UK.
The business manages all stages of processing from using traditional butchery methods to operating
one of the industry’s most advanced process and packing lines in the UK.
Clarico received the CV of a highly competent candidate, with experience in the food/meat/farming
Based on his capabilities, our task was to secure the candidate a role that would fit his abilities but
also deliver benefit to the employer. We assessed the market and subsequently advised Althams
Butchers of the candidate’s availability.
The CV we received did not essentially fill an immediate need within the business, but the candidate
had an extremely good set of skills and industry expertise that would benefit the business. Based on
this, we did an assessment as to what this potential candidate could bring to the business and
undertook a review to see what gaps in our skills there were.
We’re a growing business and normally when we we’re looking for senior roles, we would contact
agencies, but to be presented with a strong candidate was a first time for us. We followed the route
of interviewing the candidate and on the back of that decided to offer them a role as an operations
manager, which was a role we specifically created for this candidate.
From the point of the view of the business, the candidate has come in and is making a strong impact
in our operations from logistics to customer service.
From a hiring perspective, this was the first time I have dealt with Clarico and Chloe, who was very
professional and had a personal, down-to-earth, approach. The process also enabled us to see gaps
in our business and to fill it with a very talented individual, much quicker and much more costs
effectively than if we had undergone our normal recruitment processes.
